Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji became emotional as she received an Honorary Doctorate from Australia’s La Trobe University, recognising her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema and her humanitarian work, particularly her advocacy for women and marginalised communities. The honour was presented at a special graduation ceremony at Federation Square, Melbourne, as part of the 2026 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne celebrations.

As her remarkable career and achievements were celebrated on stage, Rani was visibly moved, wiping away tears before accepting the honorary degree with a smile. La Trobe University praised her profound impact on Indian cinema, along with her philanthropic and humanitarian contributions. With this recognition, Rani becomes the second Bollywood actor after Shah Rukh Khan to receive an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the university.
