A Difficult Relationship That Slowly Became Controlling!

“After the dates were over, he would take me back home. I met his family, spent time with them and even had meals together. By the third month, he had already started talking about our engagement—where it should be held, whom we should invite and all the arrangements.

Looking back, I feel that if we had gone ahead with the marriage, the relationship would probably have ended in divorce. That’s why I decided to call off the engagement. Deep down, I knew it wasn’t really love, although I didn’t understand that in the beginning. I just had this feeling that something wasn’t right.

There were moments when I thought everything was fine, but there was always something that made me uncomfortable. Eventually, the relationship became increasingly controlling, and I had to give up several things, including important moments in my career. One of my most successful films was Dragon, but people often wondered why I didn’t attend its promotions. There was a reason behind it—I was being controlled in almost every aspect of my life.

It felt like I was living with two completely different versions of the same person. One day, he would be incredibly loving and make me feel like the luckiest person in the world. The next day, his behaviour would completely change and he would become cruel.

Then he would apologise, beg for forgiveness and cry like a little child, promising that he would never behave that way again. I would end up comforting him and believing his promises. It became a cycle that was extremely difficult to break.”

Opening Up About a Difficult Phase

“I went through a really difficult phase in my life. Someone once asked me, ‘How can a person who was so confident and outspoken suddenly become so quiet?’ That question still stays with me. At that time, my self-confidence was badly affected, especially when it came to my professional life. For nearly two years, I struggled with it and found it difficult to be myself. I would avoid looking people in the eye or even smiling freely. That experience changed me in many ways,” she recalled.
